prestigious dance and performing arts academies including The Royal Ballet School, Rambert Dance Company, London Contemporary, Stella Mann, Hammond School, The Laban Centre, Doreen Bird, Millennium, Laine Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Cambridge Performing Arts, Arts Educational and Northern School of Dance.
CHOOSING A PRE-VOCATIONAL COURSE
Pre-vocational courses have proved their worth around the country, hugely improving the success ratio of students being accepted onto full-time performing arts courses.
The one-year course is designed to further equip people who show potential in the performing arts but require more training in order to be accepted at a full-time college.
It may be that you have discovered only recently a passion for movement and dance or perhaps you feel that you need additional training in drama or singing. A pre-vocational course will help you to develop your full potential and reach your goals. The course is designed to work the weaker aspects of an individual’s skill-base whilst continuing to develop their strengths. As it is only a one year course students must be prepared to work hard in all the areas of musical theatre.
PROGRAMME OF STUDY
Acknowledging the financial impact of studying full-time, the course has been designed on a 4 ½ -day week in order to facilitate students who may wish or need to supplement their income to fund the course.
Study will be tailored to suit individual needs and include Ballet, Jazz Technique,
classes as well as Contemporary, Tap, Street Dance and Hip Hop, Singing, Acting and Musical Theatre. Additional classes will include Health and Safety issues, Audition technique, CV building and photos - enabling the student to go forward with the ability and confidence to market themselves in a competitive field. Assistance and advice with applications to full-time colleges forms a part of the course.
In addition to workshops, students will gain invaluable performing experience including, “Move It” Earls Court-London, Hall for Cornwall in the Company’s annual show, at London’s prestigious dance theatre, Sadlers Wells with the Jason Thomas Dance Company, and through the Company’s exchange scheme abroad.
Tutors are experienced teachers and technicians from within the industry. Students will be continually assessed and receive a verbal report at the end of each term and a full report
The course will run from 9.00am – 6.00pm, Monday to Thursday and 9.00am-1.00pm on Friday. In addition students have access to the studios evening timetable and space for rehearsals.
Numbers will be limited on the course to a maximum of 15 students. Study groups will be considerably smaller, ensuring focus on individual needs
All Students will have the opportunity to work towards a level 4 qualification in Musical Theatre validated by Trinity College London, I.D.T.A Associate Street Dance Certificate as well as Vocational exams with the R.A.D, I.D.T.A and I.S.T.D
