About us

Jason started dancing at the age of 9 at the Cornwall High School of Dancing in Camborne, run by the charismatic and inspirational Madam Norman. At the age of 12, Jason auditioned successfully for Bush Davies School and The Lagat School of Russian Ballet. After finishing the Lower school at Lagat and appearing with the Northern Ballet Theatre on numerous occasions, he attended London Studio Centre, gaining the position of Head Ballet Boy in his second year. After graduation and becoming a member of Equity, Jason has worked throughout the world. He performed in London's West End,throughout Europe and Asia in Las Vegas style revue shows, gaining soloist/dance captain and company manager positions. He performed on many cruise lines on inaugural cruises, holding the same positions.
In 2001 Jason retired from performing and decided to take on a career in teaching. He has opened seven schools in Cornwall. Students enter exams yearly with the Royal Academy of Dance and the International Dance Teachers Association. The students also perform annually at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro and at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London. He is now Lecturer on the f.d.a in dance at Truro College, Mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance and choreographer for local holiday camps and pantomimes. Many of his students are now at vocational dance college, as well as younger students auditioning successfully for the Royal Ballet School and gaining places at White Lodge.

Jason has made dance a safe and enjoyable experience attracting students of all ages as well a remarkable amount of boys where they will "get a life and dance for life".

Testimonials

I am really looking forward to moving to the new dance studio with you, it's really exciting. I love to dance and meet up with everyone each week and am looking forward to all the coming shows we are doing.
Jasmine Knights 8 years old

I would like to say also that since Jasmine has been coming to your dance classes her confidence has improved no end.
She has always loved to dance but now feels you and your dance teachers can take her to a new level where she feels she can strive to become a good dancer and have the opportunity to perform on the stage.

I have been dancing since I was four and I am now twelve and enjoying it even more! I started with Jason just doing ballet, but that encouraged me to try other types of dance. My favourite is still ballet but I also enjoy jazz, tap and contemporary, I even do singing now. I find dance really fun and love the opportunities it has given me like having the chance to perform in the Hall
for Cornwall and Saddlers Wells. Jason is a great teacher and always encourages me even when I find the steps tricky!

'Jason Thomas dance studios gave me an amazing grounding in dance that is priceless. I am now coming to the end of my BA at Laban for which I owe a lot to Jason... I would recommend the school to anybody, for a fun hobby to keep you fit or a solid grounding in dance training in a range of styles. On a personal level Jason creates a great working atmosphere that is fun but also pushes people to work to the top of their abilities. During my time with Jason I took both RAD and IDTA vocational ballet exams, Jason dedicates a lot to his students and from this gets top grades, I also got chosen to compete in an IDTA ballet competition in Manchester through one of my ballet exams. Whilst being in the Jason Thomas Dance company I had the amazing opportunity to go on an exchange to Vancouver, Canada to the sister company Perform Art Studios, to perform and take classes and workshops over there. The best thing about being with Jason is the huge amount of performance experience I had, with anual shows at the Hall for Cornwall and also at Saddlers Well in London which is a pretty special experience performing on a huge london stage where all the massive company's perform! Without Jason's inspiration and belief in me I wouldn't be where I am today! His school is a gem and offers so many opportunities reaching out from Cornwall in dance and musical theatre.'
Elly Braund 20 years old.Currently at the Laban Centre- London

In April 2007 I made my debut on the stage at Sadlers Wells, dancing with Jason Thomas Dance Company – I was just 15 years old. On 30th November 2010 I was back on that same stage for my first full professional role, in Matthew Bourne’s ‘Cinderella’. I can say that without the one experience – in other words the excellent tuition, large-scale performances and tour to Canada I enjoyed with Jason – I believe I could not have achieved the second.
'I couldn't have asked for a better teacher for a teenage boy starting off in dance, his complete understanding of doing it himself is invaluable'.
I guess that is important too!
Thomas Greaves age 18 now performing in Cinderella by Matthew Bourne at Sadlers Wells Theatre London
